Hey Connect, we’ve got a really cool opportunity coming up, and your family needs to be a part of it! On Sunday, Sept. 6, instead of meeting for our usual worship service, Connect Christian Church is going to BE the church by serving our community.
As part of our “Rise and Build” sermon series, we are planning a massive Serving Day during Labor Day weekend in which we will spend a Sunday going to work — literally — all over town. As Mike has often said, sometimes the last thing we need to do is listen to one more Bible study or sing one more Christian song. Sometimes we just need to go and serve someone. Well, here is your chance. And here is your kids’ chance to do just that.
So here’s the plan:
Instead of meeting at the Holiday Inn on Sunday, Sept. 6, please come to the Batavia Township Park (1535 Clough Pike & where we have Sports Camp) at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and donuts (we’ll meet in the new large shelter, so enter the driveway east of the pond). Afterward, we’ll have a 20-minute service at 9 a.m. Then, we are off to work, and by 10 a.m. all our teams will be getting it done.
Some of the locations we’ll be serving include The Ronald McDonald House, A Community Center called “The Caring Place”, The Batavia Christian Help Center, and various homes and houses of elderly people who need some servants to assist with yard and house work. If you have young kids, no worries, plenty of these options are kid-friendly. And what better way for our kids to actually put their faith into action?
If you have questions, please talk with Jay & Melissa Hess, who are coordinating the details. We are also leaning on all of our awesome Connect Groups to help lead our Serving Day. So, if you are already part of a Connect Group, consider yourself already part of an amazing work party, and be sure to touch base with your Connect Group leader for all the details.
If you aren’t yet part of a Connect Group that meets regularly, no worries, we’ll get you plugged into a project (and an awesome team) that fits.
This is going to be an amazing Sunday, but none of it can happen without your willingness to serve! So, thank you, and we can’t wait to serve alongside each of you!
Stay tuned for more details, and please use the hashtag #RiseandBuild2015 in any social media posts, so we can properly celebrate this important day together.
