‘Selfie’ Starts this Sunday

Categories: Mike's Blog,News

Just a few years ago, the word “selfie” didn’t even exist. But times have definitely changed! The word “selfie” was the Oxford English Dictionary’s “Word of the Year” in 2013.

According to USA Today, over one million selfies are taken everyday. Think about that…every single day, over one million people are taking pictures of themselves. Not pictures of other people. Not pictures of beautiful scenery or special events. They are taking pictures of themselves! That would have been pretty unthinkable just a few years ago.

The selfie has become so mainstream that even the Pope and the president have gotten into the act. You can argue whether or not it’s appropriate for world leaders to take selfies, but one thing is undeniable…the selfie is here to stay!Mike_preach

And in honor of (Well, maybe not “honor.” Maybe more like “poking fun at.”) the selfie, we are kicking off a brand new sermon series this week called…you guessed it…Selfie! The graphics for this new series were made up of more than 100 selfies of our partners at Connect who posted in social media using the hashtag #ConnectSelfie. Click on the image to expand it and see if you can find yourself.

In this series, we’re going to explore some Biblical “selfies.” We’re going to dig deep into God’s Word to see what He said about things like selfishness, self-righteousness, etc. Best of all, we’re going to see how Jesus sets us free to live as a new self!

Can’t wait to get this series started at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday!
